Friends of the Divine Word Missionaries in Sydney are invited to bring the family to what promises to be a multicultural spectacular Christmas Carols celebration on December 13, filled with prayer, song and cultural sharing.
The theme for the evening is: “From Every Nation, People, Language – Together Come Let Us Adore Him”.
Mission Secretary and Provincial-Elect, Fr Henry Adler SVD, says the Carols evening has become a wonderful tradition at the St Arnold Janssen Chapel in Marsfield.
“It is an opportunity for our friends and supporters and others in the local community to come together in faith and enjoy an evening together where we focus on the impending coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ,” Fr Henry says.
“And it is also a chance for people of many different cultures and backgrounds to share some of their cultural heritage with others through national dress and singing carols in their various languages.”
The evening will be led by Fr Asaeli Raass SVD and a young woman from the Indonesian Youth Choir. It will commence with a quiet reflection to explain the multicultural theme, followed by short reflections throughout the program, from Fr Raass.
Fr Henry says about 13 different cultural groups will perform carols, many wearing national costume. The kids will also be treated to a visit from Santa.
A raffle will be held throughout the evening to raise money for the SVD AUS Province Philippines Appeal.
The evening, which begins at 7.30pm, will end with a supper featuring a selection of national dishes supplied by the different cultural groups present.
