Rockhampton Diocese welcomes SVD Jubilee Year

Rockhampton Central West Jubilee opening1The Rockhampton Diocese's Central West cluster of parishes, under the care of Fr Van Bang Nguyen SVD, has celebrated the opening of the SVD's 150th anniversary celebrations.

The Diocesan Newsletter reported that the anniversary celebration included a procession of key symbols – a bible (for the Divine Word), a globe and the SVD banner (representing the entire world and the SVD priests and brothers who are currently ministering in 79 countries), and a candle (representing Christ’s light that they are guided by and try to share with others).

"In our Diocese, we are fortunate to have the SVD priests ministering in the Central Highlands and the Central West," it said.

Fr Bang said it was a privilege to celebrate the Opening of the Jubilee Year of 150th anniversary of the Divine Word Missionaries in the Central West of QLD.

"It was also a wonderful opportunity for me to introduce the SVD to our parishioners," he said

"I had organised a workshop for the Regional Pastoral Council members to know about the SVD’s history and mission in Australia and around the world too.

"We were encouraged to be a light and be shining on our mission and life and inspire our brothers and sisters to recognise God’s love and presence in wherever we are."

The Central West Region of the Diocese of Rockhampton includes parishes at: Isisford / Jundah, Alpha / Jericho, Aramac, Barcaldine, Blackall / Tambo, Longreach / Ilfracombe.
